From time to time, we hear anecdotes about someone’s experience at our events. Usually spoken, and held only in the listener’s memory for a time. Now we want to collect your stories in one place: from members, sponsors, ticket buyers, dancers, students, volunteers, artists, board members, festival goers. Tell us about a concert that you really enjoyed, a genre of music that you didn’t know about until you attended the Festival, a great time you’ve had volunteering at an event, a student you saw grow through an after-school experience. If you’ve been touched by Cityfolk, we’d like to know.
You are the people that really matter to us. We host our concerts, festivals, dances and school programs in hopes that we will touch and enrich your lives in some way.
We reserve the right to share your stories with others (though we’re happy to keep you anonymous). To say thank you, for each story you submit to stories@cityfolk.org through December 12, you will be entered to win an orange 8 GB Ipod Nano. The drawing for the iPod will be on Monday, December 13.

Summertime in Dayton is always something to look forward to because of the Cityfolk Festival! I have many great memories from the past few years that my family and I have been attending including... the soulful sounds of Ruthie Foster, the incredible musicianship of Bela Fleck and the African Banjo Project,Scythian with their eclectic, driving gypsy rock and last year's topper, The Carolina Chocolate Drops tearin' the roof off plaza(folks not able to control themselves dancing for the fun of it all!!)
Cityfolk is one of the many reasons I'm proud to call Dayton my hometown. Thank you to all who give us this gift each year!
Pam
Thank you Pam!
The festival has long been a favorite summer activity of mine. The diversity of the music and the hundreds of volunteers to make it happen always proves to be a hit as an event drawing the most diverse and eclectic audiences and showing that the Dayton community knows how to rally together for a good time!
Another favorite, more than once, is to attend a Celtic performance during the year where young audience members are invited to dance on stage while the artists perform. It's not every day you can attend a concert and possibly end up on stage! Kudos to the artists that love to interact with the audience! Occasional pre-show entertainment is also an added bonus!
I just attended the Cityfolk performance by Natalie MacMaster at the Dayton Masonic Temple and it was truly fantastic! My 22 year old son and his girlfriend attended the concert with me and my son commented that he, "Thought he would sleep through it." However, he had a wonderful experience and has put Ms. MacMasters music onto his iPod already! I appreciate that I was able to expose them to such a positive cultural experience at such a beautiful venue! Bringing in such quality acts as Natalie MacMaster is why Cityfolk has been successful for 30 years!
Congratulations!
I have two (2) favorite moments at Cityfolk. The first one was about 7-8 years ago. Cathie Ryan was at the Cityfolk Festival. She came at the last minute instead of a band that ran into visa issues. I was sitting in the family tent with my daughter, who was about 10 at the time. The music was lovely. My daughter asked to buy her CD (which we still have). I was so grateful to expose her to different music.
My second one was also at the Festival - a few years ago. Bela Fleck and Oumou Sangare were headlining on the Main Stage. Bela is one of the premier guitar musicians in the world and Oumou Sangare and her band, the most famous band in Africa - in Dayton, Ohio. We are so, so fortunate.
Pam, you're our winner! Call me at 937-223-3655 x 3013 so I can send the IPod Nano your way!
