Elder Statesman of Bluegrass: Del McCoury

Born in 1939 in North Carolina but raised around York, Pennsylvania, Del McCoury is the most celebrated bluegrass singer of his generation. He has won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album and numerous honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), including an unprecedented nine Entertainer of the Year awards, Male Vocalist of the Year (four times), Instrumental Group of the Year (twice), Album of the Year (twice) and Song of the Year.

After getting his start with Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys, Del McCoury has led his own band since 1967. He is today one of the elder statesmen of bluegrass, the undisputed champion of high lonesome traditional bluegrass. At the helm of a red-hot band that includes his sons Ronnie (mandolin) and Rob (banjo), Del McCoury is the rare bluegrass artist who appeals equally to die-hard traditionalists and young jam band followers. The Del McCoury Band has introduced bluegrass to millions of people through touring with Phish, playing at Bonnaroo and other rock festivals and recording with country-rock singer/songwriter Steve Earle.

The Del McCoury Band will perform at Dayton Masonic Center on Saturday, January 23. Tickets are going fast, so don't wait to get yours!

Thank you, Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers for opening for Del McCoury. You were a pleasure to listen to. Thank you also for your support of Cityfolk and the January bluegrass concert. You are a great partner for this event.
