A few years ago my friend Scott Nuckles showed me a VHS tape of a guitar player and his band, dimly lit, performing in a bar in Franklin, Ohio. They were playing everything from swing classics like "Jumpin' At The Woodside" to the theme to the '50-60s TV show "Perry Mason." The bandleader and lead guitarist was Scotty Anderson and my eyes and ears nearly popped off my head when they launched full-throttle into the country standard "John Henry." Anderson squeezed as much music out of a guitar (a well worn Fender Telecaster) as I had ever heard. I called Cincinnati (now Nashville) music writer Larry Nager and he confirmed that what I had seen was indeed guitar playing from another planet altogether.
We then tried to book him for the Cityfolk Festival, but the appearance fell through when a lucrative opportunity in Nashville presented itself. After having a chance to see him live at a private party in Brookville two years ago, I held onto the idea and this year we finally have Scotty and his band on view in Dayton.
Most of the guitar players in the region are already in on the not-so-secret skills of this phenomenal player. You have your chance at Canal Street Tavern on January 31. Click through for details on the show and how to buy tickets.

I'm looking forward to this show. Cityfolk's first guitar show at Canal Street was a blast! You can expect just as much fun from Scotty and his band.
